I have lived in Berkhamsted for 25 years and have 4 children. I work as a Midwife in Oxford carrying out research for the University into problems of pregnancy such as high blood pressure and small babies
As a clinical midwife many of the women who I looked after had used Acupuncture prior to and / or during their pregnancies. I was so impressed by the effect Acupuncture had on these women that it prompted me to find out more, and ultimately I decided to learn Acupuncture myself. I trained for 3½ years at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading whilst still working as a midwife, and now work as both an NHS/University Research Midwife and a private Acupuncturist.
I belong to the British Acupuncture Council and The Royal College of Midwives and I actively continue specialist postgraduate training

Melanie EllimanTraditional Acupuncture
Melanie Elliman holds a BSc (Hons) degree in acupuncture and trained at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine, where two disciplines are blended. These styles are known as TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and Five Element Acupuncture.
Melanie is a member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC), which is the main regulatory body for the practice of acupuncture in the UK.
My approach to treatment
I became an Acupuncturist having received great health benefits and a sense of well being in many ways after experiencing treatment myself. My intention when treating is to enable patients to realise their full health potential. I have named my clinic "Shenming" for this very reason. According to traditional Chinese philosophy when a person is in good health they emanate good Shenming. This manifests as a glow within the complexion and sparkle to the eyes when the individual feels well physically, emotionally and mentally, a wholeness where balance has been restored.
