Animal Chiropractic deals with the musculo-skeletal system, primarily the spine and the relationship of the spine with the nervous system.
Sometimes a joint between 2 vertebrae may become slightly fixated restricting the normal range of motion and decreasing flexibility. This could be due to a fall, a bad stumble, or specifically with regards to horses being cast or a badly fitting saddle. It could be due to lameness or poor shoeing and a resultant change in the way the horse normally moves.
Common reasons why a horse might need chiropractic care:
- Reduced performance
- Abnormal posture
- Snapping and pinning back its ears when being saddled or rugged
- Insubordination when being ridden
- The attempt to free itself by throwing its head back or up or by hollowing the back
- Swishing its tail and pinning its ears
- Disobedience when jumping
- Changes in behaviour
- Difficulties with collected or lateral gaits
Common reasons why a dog might need chiropractic care:
- Abnormal posture
- Unexplained deterioration in performance, for example jumping in and out of the car
- "puppy" sitting
- unsteadiness upon standing
- sensitivity to touch
- reluctance to being groomed
- changes in behaviour
- lying on one side only.
Fees:
Equine £55 per visit of one horse (more than 3 horses in the same yard £45 per horse)
this includes travel within a 10 miles radius of Berkhamsted, yards further than this and there will be a charge of £0.50 per mile
Canine £25 per visit - same travel arrangements apply and please call me with regards to discounts if treating a number of dogs in the same facility - normally the owner's home/kennel club
Dr Crerar is a human chiropractor with additional training in Animal Chiropractic (small and large animal). She is NOT a veterinarian. All animals receiving chiropractic treatment must be under care of a traditional veterinarian and have the vet's consent before beginning treatment.
